Latvian AI Olympiad 2026

🎉We are delighted to announce Team Latvia’s results at IOAI 2026! Latvia won two individual medals: 🥈 silver — Andris Jānis Rozenbergs; 🥉 bronze — Andrejs Zikovs; honourable mention — Arseni Ivanou.

From a new national competition to the world stage in one season. Latvia’s first open AI olympiad built a national team—and that team returned from IOAI 2026 with silver and bronze.

The olympiad

The first Latvian Open AI Olympiad began with an online qualification round on 2–8 February and continued with an on-site final in Riga on 3 March. Students worked across mathematics, programming, and machine learning.

The cycle created Latvia’s first AI olympiad pathway: an open national competition, a final, team selection, and preparation for international competition.

Latvia on the international stage

EUROAI 2026. Latvia participated remotely, without numbered places in the official ranking. Andrejs Zikovs and Andris Rozenbergs both scored within the bronze-medal range.

IOAI 2026. Latvia won two individual medals: 🥈 silver — Andris Jānis Rozenbergs; 🥉 bronze — Andrejs Zikovs; honourable mention — Arseni Ivanou.

Latvia began the season without a national AI olympiad or team-selection system. Within months, we organised selection and preparation; in their first international season, our students scored within the bronze-medal range at EUROAI and won silver and bronze at IOAI.

Tenerife AI Camp

Latvia’s team spent two weeks training alongside more than 100 young people from different countries.

The students prepared for IOAI with top-level international coaches, including previous gold medallists, analysed solutions, and worked with contestants from other national teams.

Goal.

AI is one of the most important inventions of the 21st century. Its influence on work, education, and daily life is already substantial and will continue to grow.

This makes it crucially important to promote AI education, especially among the young generation. We aim to spark curiosity, develop analytical thinking, and open doors to a field that will define the next era of innovation.
